Through A Glass Darkly
Take 52 Week #8: Mirror
I had a lot of ideas when I read this week’s theme. I spent a lot of time today fiddling with the various funky mirrors in our house. At one point I even attempted to use another camera lens as a mirror, but I never quite got the effect I was going for.
Then I saw the reflection of the dwindling sun in the one-way glass at the school tonight. And I knew I’d found my shot.
I like how ominous the tree looks with in the fading sun. And I like the effect of the jet-stream – I hadn’t seen it when I was composing the photo. It wasn’t until I opened the image on the computer after returning inside that I saw that streak of horizontal light across the sky. The window panes segment what looks like a normal nature shot, and give it the perspective of being reflected by the window. I’m rather thankful it is a holiday week from school, or I would certainly have been given strange looks peering into a window with a camera.
Thanks to all of the talented Take 52 members who have visited here in the past 8 weeks. There have been so many kind words here and on the site. That interactive aspect of the challenge makes it even more enjoyable.

Beautiful! I love the colors! Such a clever reflection
Welcome! Thanks for stopping by and for your kind comments.
Beautifully framed. The glass’s reflection has also perhaps acted as a polarizer and has thus brought enhanced the image further. Brilliant work!
errhhm.. Pls strike out the ‘brought’ from the above comment
Good eye, Ausaf. The glass is a peculiar blue tint and has a distinctive sheen. Creates a neat effect. I also adjusted the contrast and definition slightly as well, to make the tree stand out a bit.
Very nice, Christy! Love the composition and the the way it’s lit. The tree is dark enough to give pretty much just the silhouette.
Thank you for stopping by, Crystal!
The mirror theme has been a fun one, hasn’t it? Another beautiful shot Christy
Thanks once again for your affirming words, Andy!
Very cool. The jet stream is a nice touch.
Welcome, Sara. Thanks. I discovered it afterward. Some of photography is luck.
