The Beauty In the Pause
Take 52 Week #30: Beauty
Our time in France continues. Before we left, Colin and I heard from so many people: “You have to see…” “You’ll regret it if you don’t…”. I know people mean well, but so many expectations. It took everything in me not to say “I will be France with the love of my life. Do you think I will regret anything“?!
We came into this trip with the idea that good relationships come out of intention. The focus was on the fact that we were together, and no site or piece of art is greater than that. We had a few “must-sees’, but we allowed time for rest. We scheduled time for wandering with no particular destination, and that has been an extraordinary gift. We’ve been rewarded with intensely beautiful moments.
Yesterday we arrived back in Paris, and the hotel informed us that the room we had last week was no longer available. But for the same cost they would be happy to provide us with the deluxe room – a luxurious corner room with views of Tour d’Eiffel and La Basilique du Sacré Coeur. And as the sun went down last night, I was reminded that the most beautiful moments are those that come when we intentionally choose to slow down. If we had been out, racing between tourist traps, we would have missed the preciousness of a slow, savoured moment.
Monumental moments are often experienced away from the monuments.
