Take 52 Week #37: Free
Last night we spent the evening with our kids at their youth group kick-off. The event was organized for the whole family and we had such a fun night visiting with other families, eating a delicious meal (the only thing better than food is free food) and bumping into our teens every once in awhile.
The dishes were done, the enormous group of kids were just wrapping up a massive scavenger hunt, and my husband leaned over and said five magic words (at least to this photography junkie): “It’s golden hour out there”.
So I broke away from the group and did a lap of the outside of the church, camera in hand. Our church is located on the outskirts of the city, and it has been unseasonably hot here. In fact, it’s so warm that nature is confused. The geese seem to think it’s July and most of trees are still green. So it was a rare treat to photograph the early sunset of autumn without a coat. The sun going down against a line of trees and power poles was a beautiful moment.
Every once in a while, it is good to break free of the masses. And when you get a view like this to yourself, it feels even more special.
